Hotels & Motels

The OUSA 2014 Classic Championships and Trail-O Championships will be headquartered at the M-Lazy-C Ranch, 42 miles west of Colorado Springs and five miles west of Lake George, Colorado.  [Google Map]

We also have arrangements with three hotels in the area: in Colorado Springs -- the Clarion and the Quality Inn (Choice Properties), and in Woodland Park -- the Woodland Park Country Lodge.  The split is for two reasons:

  • Friday's events are in Colorado Springs, and
  • The Woodland Park Country Lodge is booked full for Friday night with another event (this other event has been on the books for over a year).

The hotel information is:

  • Clarion Hotel & Conference Center - 314 W. Bijou Street - Colorado Springs, CO.  To get the best rate, use the special OUSA link (http://www.choicehotels.com/en/sports-travel), and enter Special Rate / Corp ID 00228560.  Rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.

  • Quality Suites Downtown - 314 W. Bijou Street - Colorado Springs, CO.  To get the best rate, use the special OUSA link (http://www.choicehotels.com/en/sports-travel), and enter Special Rate / Corp ID 00228560.  Rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.  Note:  This is the best location for folks who will be attending the OUSA convention. It's about 30-40 minutes from the hotel to Woodland Park, or one hour minutes to the meet headquarters at M Lazy C Ranch in Lake George.

  • Woodland Park Country Lodge - Woodland Park, CO. Call 1-866-687-4466 for reservations. The hotel is sold out on Friday night, but we have held rooms for Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10. Rate is $132/night for Saturday night and $122/night for Sunday night. Guests should call the hotel directly and use the word "Orienteering" to get the rate.  Any rooms unbooked by by July 9 will be returned to the inventory. However, if we sell out quickly, they will add rooms if they have them.

The M Lazy C is a working cattle and guest ranch with rustic cabins, wooded camp sites, a dining hall, and small general store.  See www.mlazyc.com.  The ranch has seven rustic cabins to rent, two bunkhouses (dorms), and RV and tent camping.

Ranch guests can purchase meals and meal packages from the ranch: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, reserve in advance.
Lodging, camping and meal reservations at 1-800-289-4868 or www.mlazyc.com.

Other motels, cabins, restaurants and tourist attractions dot the route from Colorado Springs through Woodland Park to Florissant and Lake George.

Lake George has only one lodging option:  11 Mile Lodge, with 10 cabins, some with kitchenettes.  Full payment on reservation. There is also the Travel Port RV Campground. For dining, there is Lake George Pizzeria and a convenience store.

Florissant has no lodging, but there is a Mountain Burger and a Subway for food options. The Fossil Inn is extinct.

Cripple Creek is 23 miles from Lake George on the now-paved Teller County Road 1.  Cripple Creek's elevation of 9400' is breathtaking, and there are several locally owned motels: Cripple Creek Motel, Gold King Mountain Inn, Hotel St Nicholas, and Gold Strike Inn.  Restaurants include the Home Cafe, Bronco Billy's, and the Steak House. Cripple Creek is an historic gold mining town, now home to several casinos.  Attractions include Cripple Creek Narrow Gauge Railroad, Molly Kathleen Gold Mine, several museums, and the town's wild burros. Between Cripple Creek and Lake George, you will drive through Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.  Stop to see the petrified forest and fossils.

In Woodland Park, lodging includes the Eagle Fire Lodge motel and cabins, Edgewood Inn, Bristlecone Lodge, Woodland Inn, and the aforementioned Woodland Park Country Lodge.  RMOC's registration pickup on Friday, August 8 from 5-8 pm will be at the Ute Pass Brewery and Restaurant in Woodland Park, also well vetted by RMOC.

Green Mountain Falls has the Rocky Top Motel and Campground, Lakeside Cottages, Lone Duck Cabins and Campground, and Outlook Lodge.

In Cascade is the Adobe Inn and Rocky Mountain Cabins.

In Crystola, there is the Wishing Well Motel.

Manitou Springs, west side of Colorado Springs, has more motels.  Its website: http:manitousprings.org/category/lodging links to 19 motels.

Colorado Springs has many nationally branded motels and hotels.
